The vertical magnetic field lines in electrolytic reduction cells, particularly for the production of aluminium, are absorbed by a device comprising the steel shell 12 of the reduction cell and, for the upper part of the cell, screening arranged over the cell, the screening being made of metal of high magnetic conductivity (e.g. iron or steel) and being connected magnetically (at 32) to the shell. The screening can be in the form of a fume hood 31, 34 (including a container for alumina), plate, tubes, grid mesh or yokes, between the anode beam 21 and tops of the anodes 18. <IMAGE> |
