A safety closure for plastic packages contg. medical tablets consists of a slicing plug which is joined, when new, to a cover flange by breakable webs. Once the webs are broken, the plug can be extracted only by inserting a dovetail extension flange into a slot at the rear of the plug and turning through 90 degrees. The plug is inserted successively deeper as the tablets are taken out. - This provides a closure which is safe from interference by children and also guarantees that the package contains the original genuine contents. The closure is simple and can be produced at low cost.
