Segmented flywheel gear rim - has dovetail connections between segments assembled by relative movement normal to common plane only

The arrangement is intended for a gear rim secured on a rotating member e.g. a flywheel. The rim consists of a number of segments (3-6) arranged in a common plane and interconnected via hook-like interlocking portions. There may be weld connections between the segments and the member. The interconnections are so arranged that for assembly or dismantling they require relative movement at right angles to the common plane only. The end faces of the segments may have a hammer or mushroom-shaped projection (8) fitting a corresponding recess (11) in the adjoining segment.
