Trichloroethylene (I) is used as agent to treat foot and mouth disease in animals, esp. cattle, pigs, sheep and goats. (I) may be used to treat infected animals as well as those not yet infected but living in close proximity. (I) has no toxic side-effects on treated animals, provided the eyes are well shielded. Treatment is carried out by spraying undiluted or diluted(I) on the feet and the mouth of the infected animals, using pref. an electric spray gun.
