The sail rig for a sailboard has a mast (4) on a fore-and-aft pivot (6, 7) carrying a universal joint (8) at the top end, approx. waist-high. The triangular sail (16) has identical spars (10, 12) which are used to support the buff and the foot and is kept taut by a curved bar (14) connected to the spars by (releasable) ball joints, centrally mounted on the mast universal joint. The stiffness of the spars increases towards their free ends and they are curved, hollow towards the bar. Both bar and spar curvature is adjustable by means of variable-length lines (e.g. 34).
|
