The present invention concerns a novel process for preparing derivatives useful in the production of prostaglandins. The present invention provides a process for the production of a compound of formula I <IMAGE> I wherein R1 is a protecting group which comprises hydrolysing a compound of formula II <IMAGE> II wherein R1 is as defined above and R2 is a leaving group, under acidic conditions.
