The device is for regulating the height and depth of cut of a tool used in a wood shaping machine. It has an optical means of precisely measuring the size of the cut to be taken which comprises a set of transparent parallel blocks which have graduations etched on their outer faces. The blocks are placed at a distance from each other thus allowing two corresponding graduations to be aligned on a parallel plane work table. A light is attached for illuminating the graduations and the assembly is housed in a container which is attached to the machine by two suction pads.
