Cushions are made by enclosing a group of springs in a box-shaped cover made of flexible foam. The springs are of biconic form so that the waist has a smaller dia. than the ends. Ancillary strips of flexible foam are laid in the space between the waists of adjacent rows of springs, to damp lateral movement. The various strips of foam may be of similar of differing levels of hardness, to control the shape of the cushion in response to local loads. Process is used esp. for mfr. of seat cushions 500-700 mm long, 600-800 mm deep and 110-200 mm thick enclosing a group of springs requiring an internal recess of 480 x 480 x 90 mm.
|
