For working wood or similar soft materials, the board-bladed chisel comprises a blade (1a) with an integral handle (1b) of which the tip (1c) is designed to receive direct hammer blows. The active cutting edge (1d) is incorporated on a thin broad blade, and may be formed by mono-bevelling. In addition the sides of the blade may be similarly bevelled (1e) on the same face, and the sides may subtend angles of nominally less than 90 degrees with the cutting edge to provide cutting clearance. The blade section may be straight curved or of a V-shape with a varying included angle. The tip may be of treated steel for ease of filling, and may be enlarged to afford hand protection. Finally the tool may comprise a one piece forging or may be fabricated by welding a blade to a metal handle.
|
