PURPOSE:A fireproof layer-forming material having improved fire, water, and oil resistance and tensile properties, comprising a polychloroprene or chlorinated polyethylene, chloroprene-1,2-dichlorobutadiene copolymer, hydrated alumina, CaCO3, and zinc borate. CONSTITUTION:A fireproof layer-forming material is prepared by vulcanizing a uniform mixture of (A) 100 parts by wt. of a polychloroprene, chlorinated polyethylene, or their blend, (B) 15-40 parts by wt., preferably 20-30 parts by wt., of chloroprene-1,2-dichlorobutadiene copolymer, (C) 150-300 parts by wt., preferably 180-250 parts by wt., of a mixture of hydrated alumina and calcium carbonate at a weight ratio of 2:1-1:2, and (D) 10-50 parts by wt. of zinc borate. The material having a high mechanical strength is easily applied to cotinuous materials, and particularly usable as a material for forming fireproof layers on electric wires and cables. |
