<p>The sculling aid for forward facing control has the sweeps split into two sections, with adjoining ends separately pivoted (16, 17) in a housing on the gunwhale. The pivots are fitted with fixed discs around which are looped flexible drives in crossed loops between the two systems so that a pivot action on the one section causes the other to pivot in the opposite direction. No complex gears are required with the flexible bands transmitting the torque. The operator is able to sit facing the direction of travel while using his body to pull the sweeps rearwards for maximum effect.</p> |
