A tachometer on the engine feeds an analogue signal generator whose output rotates a pointer moving over an engine speed scale. A pressure detector in the intake downstream of the throttle produces a signal proportional to the load. this deflects a second pointer over a scale calibrated to indicate load and fuel consumption per hundred kilometres. The intersection of the two pointers gives an indication of the economy of operation. A line on the instrument marks the locus of the intersection for maximum economy.
