In a method of manufacturing a thin-coat ceramic oxide gas sensor s, platinum leads 6 are located in the bores 4 of a ceramic insulator 2, and terminals 8 are attached to one end of the leads 6. The bores are sealed, and the other ends of the leads 6 are embedded in a thin coat of ceramic oxide 12 which is applied to the lower face 14 of the insulator 2 by plasma or flame spraying. The ohmic resistance of the ceramic oxide changes when there is a change in the partial pressure of the oxygen in the exhaust gases of an engine, and measurement of the ohmic resistance makes possible the determination of the air-fuel ratio of the engine and control of that ratio. <IMAGE> |
