The arrangement is intended to protect a coil spring (9) against wear esp. in a brake cylinder (11) where a spring is arranged close to a guide surface (10). In the gap between the spring and the surface there is at least one member n11) held by at least part of the spring windings. This member is at a small distance from the surface. The member may consist of resilient plastics and have a profile corresponding with the contour of the spring it engages. The member may be a split ring. It may have a helical contour corresponding with the part of the spring contour it engages.
