Multipart mould, for metallothermic welding of two pieces by arranging liquid weld metal around the ends of the pieces to be joined in a mould, is claimed in which at least one of the surfaces of the mould will come into contact with one of the pieces or another part of the mould, includes a projection with an outwardly sloping flank wrt. the casting cavity. The projection is covered with a sealing strip of compressible material of low ignition loss, one face of which is adhered to the projection. Esp. useful in butt-welding railway lines and other similar profiles. The projection and the sealant strip together prevent leakage of weld metal from the joint region when the seal is under pressure. |
