Process for the preparation of furan compounds

Furan compounds of the formula I are prepared. In these, the radicals R1, R2 and R4, independently of each other, denote hydrogen atoms or lower alkyl groups, and the group is an acyl radical. The preparation is carried out by acylation of the corresponding mercapto compounds. The furan compounds of the formula I are used advantageously as aromatising agents, in particular to improve the meat-like flavour of foods.
