Drill bit lock for rotary and impact tool - uses balls in recess along bit and groove inside locking sleeve

The method of securing a drill bit in a rotary and impact drill uses locating and locking balls. The drilling bit (3) has a hexagonal shaft (7) which fits inside the tool holder sleeve (1) of the drill. This hexagonal part is divided into two lengths by a groove (9) into which fit locating balls (4). These balls fit into holes (5) through the sleeve and prevent the drill bit from falling out. The sleeve has a hexagonal portion which matches the hexagonal part of the bit. An adjusting and locking sleeve (2) around this sleeve, has a groove (8) along its inside which allows the balls to move radially outwards to allow the bit to be removed.
