1452730 Oxirane compounds HOECHST AG 29 July 1975 [31 July 1974 22 May 1975] 31670/75 Heading C2C A process for preparing an oxirane of a straight chain or slightly branched (as hereinafter defined) mainly terminally ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon having from 8 to 60 carbon atoms comprises epoxidizing the hydrocarbon with an oxidation mixture of acetic acid and/or acetic anhydride and aqueous hydrogen peroxide in the presence of an acidic catalyst, in an inert, chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbon which is liquid under the reaction conditions and which has from 1 to 3 carbon atoms, at least one of which is present in the form of a -CCl 3 , -CHCl 2 or =CCl 2 group, the weight ratio of ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon to solvent being from 1 : 1 to 1 : 50. By "slightly branched" hydrocarbons is meant hydrocarbons which contain per molecule at most two branching points with side chains of from 1 to 4 carbon atoms. |
