Membrane diffusion device

A membrane diffusion device has a convoluted membrane defining first flow paths on one side and second flow paths on the opposite side. The membrane 14 is supported by a stiff backing folded along parallel fold lines into sections, so that each section lies in a corresponding pocket defined by the convolutions on one side of the membrane. The backing is provided with tabs 30 which are folded over and adhered to the body of the backing to double the thickness at the edge of the backing to define spacing gaskets along the edges of the sections for spacing the major parts of the sections apart, when the assembly is compressed into a stack.
