A method for introducing genetic material or another molecule with a therapeutic purpose into cells or organisms is disclosed. A virus, or virus component, is used to introduce the genetic material, or other molecule with a therapeutic purpose, into a living cell or organism by infection. The cell or organism is exposed to a specific inhibitor or proteasomal function, whereby the inhibitor is administered in such a way so that it exerts its inhibitory action on proteasomal function at the time that the cell or organism is infected with the virus or virus component and whereby the inhibitor causes attenuation and/or blocking of the normal proteasomal functions of degradation of viral components and blocking of infection is disclosed. The therapeutic benefits that are mediated by the virus or virus component are thereby augmented.
