A system and a method for water purification are provided to purify water economically and efficiently by measuring ultraviolet absorbance in real-time, and adopting a filtration membrane as a final treatment process if treated water has good quality and additionally performing a granular activated carbon treatment process if the treated water has deteriorated quality, thereby changing a flow path in real-time. An advanced water purification system using ultraviolet absorbance comprises a chemical mixing tank(1), a slow stirring flocculation tank(2), a setting tank(3), a membrane filter tank(4), a packed tower(5), a treated water storage tank(6), a ultraviolet detector(10), and a flow path changing valve(9). The chemical mixing tank includes a stirrer(7) stirring a flocculant and influent. The slow stirring flocculation tank receives the influent stirred with the flocculant in the chemical mixing tank to increase the size of particles flocculated. The settling tank settles floc produced in the slow stirring flocculation tank using gravity to remove the floc. The membrane filter tank has a filtration membrane(8) dipped thereinto such that influent received from the settling tank passes through the filtration membrane. The packed tower is filled with granular activated carbon. The treated water storage tank stores treated water that has been purified. The ultraviolet detector measures ultraviolet absorbance values of the treated water stored in the treated water storage tank. The flow path changing valve changes a flow path according to the ultraviolet absorbance values measured in real-time by the ultraviolet detector. The flow path changing valve send the influent passing through the membrane filter tank directly to the treated water storage tank, or to the treated water storage tank after passing the influent through the packed tower.
