Removing acetylenes from olefin and diolefin streams - using an activated copper catalyst supported on gamma alumina

Process for removing alpha-acetylenes from liquid hydrocarbon streams comprises contacting the stream in the liquid state and contg. dissolved hydrogen gas at 10-150 degrees C with a bed of supported catalyst consisting of a mixt. of finely divided copper metal and a minor proportion of >=1 polyvalent activator metal selected from Ag, Pt, Pd, Mn, Co, Ni, Cr and Mo supported on gamma alumina having a surface area of >=10 sq. metres/g and contg. 0.1-1.5 wt % of Na2O. Catalyst has long life and is easily regenerated.
