The safety helmet for a motorcycle rider has earphones (2) hidden in the padding (1) and connected by wires (3) to a socket (4) which is mounted in the helmet. The socket connects through a plug (5) and a wire (7) to a receiver which has an aerial and audio section and is adopted to take various receiver modules for receiving various radio programmes. The wire (7) is maintained taut and is wound on automatic roller in the receiver. The helmet provides a positive incentive to be worn.
