PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of determining a read candidate position where an influence of foreign matter is small as a read position and reading an image even if the foreign matter sticks.SOLUTION: An image reader 100 comprises: conveyor rollers 111-113 conveying a document to a read region on a read glass 118; and a read unit 127 reading the document at a read position within the read region. The read unit 127 detects pieces of dust 301-303 sticking at a plurality of read candidate positions Y, Ywithin the read region using image data read with the document not conveyed at the plurality of read candidate positions Y, Y, and measures sticking density of the dust. The image reader 100 further comprises a CPU 803 which determines a read position where the document is to be read among the read candidate positions Y, Yaccording to the measured sticking density of the dust, and then reads the document at the determined read position.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4 |
