Caged ball bearing for linear and rotating shaft - has transfer zone in outer track with elastic deflection pad at turning point

The ball bearing permits axial movement of a rotating shaft and comprises a cage with a series of oval guide tracks for the ball bearings and an outer casing with cylindrical tracks parallel to the shaft axis. At each end, transfer sections are at a greater radial distance from the axis than the parallel sections. These transfer sections permit the balls to pass from one axial guide path to the other whilst following the cylindrical contour of the shaft. In order to reduce the frictional stress on the balls and the tracks in the transfer zone, the outer casing has an elastic weak point which permits some deflection of the balls from their path. The weak point is in the form of a cross-sectional reduction, pref. a slot or groove in the outer surface of the outer casing extending over the entire width of the transfer zone. The bearing permits linear movement of a rotating shaft whilst guaranteeing an even loading of the bearings and a reduction of frictional stress. The life of the bearings is consequently extended.
