Pellets for high mechanical strength moulded articles - comprising glass fibre bundles and oriented and non-oriented thermoplastic resins

A pellet of length 1-20mm comprises (1) at least one inner pillar-shaped body comprising a bundle of glass fibre filaments embedded in a non-oriented thermoplastic resin, the fibres being separated from each other and extending in parallel to each other through the resin, and (2) an outer covering layer, devoid of glass fibre filaments, made of a thermoplastic resin oriented in the axial direction of the filaments and compatible with the non-oriented thermoplastic resin in (1). The compsn. contains 5-60 wt % glass fibres. The resin content is 0.25-18 wt % in (1) and 94.75-22 wt % in (2), based on the total compsn. The pellet is suitable for the mfr. of moulded articles having good physical properties, esp. mechanical strength. The moulding machines are not damaged through frictional abrasion and the obtd. articles have uniformly dispersed, long length glass fibres.
