PURPOSE:To provide an ultraviolet-shielding agent composed of titanium oxide containing both anatase and rutile crystal phases at a specific ratio, having high ultraviolet-absorbing effect, high safety to the skin and excellent durability and suitable for compounding to a cosmetic owing to low masking power. CONSTITUTION:The objective agent is composed of titanium oxide having both anatase and rutile crystal phases. The ratio of the anatase crystal to the rutile crystal is 0.01-2, preferably 0.05-1 determined by the peak intensity of X-ray diffraction pattern and the average particle diameter of the titanium oxide is preferably 10-500nm, especially 20-200nm. The ultraviolet-shielding agent is effective in absorbing and shielding wide range of ultraviolet rays compared with conventional titanium oxide, has high ultraviolet-shielding effect, high safety to the skin, excellent durability and low masking power and, accordingly, the agent can effectively protect the skin from ultraviolet ray when compounded to a cosmetic. |
