The tool consists of a rotating cylinder (1) fitted on its lateral surface with a plurality of cutters (3) having a continuous blade and with a plurality of cutting elements (16) which act on the wood (11) ahead of said cutters. Said cylinder is also provided with slots (2) which are equally inclined with respect to its generating lines and which each house a cutter having a continuous blade (3), a cutter holder (12) positioned behind the associated cutter and fitted with cutting elements (16), and a block (4) which locks said cutter (3) against said cutter holder (12). The tool enables a considerable increase in the service life, yield and reliability of operation of the machine to be achieved and also simplifies and reduces the number of periodic overhauls of the cylinder body. <IMAGE>
