The pump maintains the pressure of a liquid or gaseous medium in a tank above atmospheric pressure. It is controlled by a load detector which switches the driving motor off or disengages a clutch when the pump power requirement increases above the preset value. The drive between the motor and pump contains an elastic coupling. The load detector measures the angle between the two parts of the coupling which increases with the load. This method of detection measures the mechanical output only and eliminates the mechanical, electrical and thermal losses of the pump.
