An optimal ratio combining unit, Fig. 2, is controlled by a comparator 6, Fig. 1, which compares the relative strengths of noise received over two diversity paths, each channel including a logarithmic amplifier 1, 1' and a rectifier 4, 5; 4', 5' which are essentially similar in nature so as to eliminate undesirable temperature variations. The signals from each diversity path are fed into respective phase splitters 7, 7' and combined in differential amplifiers 8, 9; 10, 11 under the control of the comparator 6 output as shown, so as to produce a balanced output at 12. <IMAGE> |
