The flexible coupling consists of an intermediate flexible member in the form of a toroid which is connected to inner and outer rings. The connection consists of loops of a flexible material so arranged that a relative angular displacement of one coupling ring to the other causes the flexible loops to exert pressure tending to compress the elastic toroid. The fastening of the loops is pref. by means of sleeves (10, 16) on the outer and inner coupling rings through which bolts or pins pass. Stiffening elements may be incorporated (52) in the toroid which may consist of a single endless element or several cylindrical elements. The flexible coupling is assembled without vulcanising so that, when it is necessary to replace the flexible element, it is only necessary to unbolt the loops on one side without removing the connectors as well.
