<p>A yarn treatment agent is applied to the thread running over the support dish on the spindle of a double-acting twisting machine, by means of an absorbant wiper head. This projects from below, into an annular recess of the dish, intersecting the line of motion of the thread. The wiper head is arranged in a housing in which it is soaked in the fluid held in a container, and consists of a number of very thin metal plates or rings. Their lower end is in contact with a wick impregnated with the agent, or it may be immersed in a fluid. The capillary action of the gaps between the discs, lifts the fluid to the upper zone of the head, which is brushed by the thread. The wiper thread is of simple design, and whilst it treats the thread gently, so that no damage is done, it is practically unaffected by abrasive forces.</p> |
