<p>The present invention provides in a pipe chamber feeder for use in the hydraulic handling of solid materials comprising first and second pipe chambers adapted to be connected through locking mechanisms with means for alternately charging and discharging of said chambers with an aqueous slurry of said solid materials, such that said first chamber is charged when said second chamber is discharged and said second chamber is charged when said first chamber is discharged, said first chamber during the charging being connected at one end with a charging pump and at the other end with a clear water basin, said second chamber during the discharging being connected at one end with a delivery duct and at the other end with a high pressure pump pumping water from said clear water basin into said second chamber to initially raise the pressure therein and subsequently cause discharge of said slurry at high pressure to said delivery duct, the improvement comprising an intermediate chamber adapted to be connected through locking mechanisms at a first end thereof alternately with said charging pump and said delivery duct, and at a second end thereof alternately with said clear water basin and said high pressure pump during the raising of the pressure in one of said chambers said intermediate chamber being connected with said charging pump and said clear water basin, and during the charging one of said chambers said intermediate chamber first being connected with said high pressure pump and said delivery duct, the discharging one of said chambers being interrupted and the high pressure being maintained, said intermediate chamber being then connected only with said clear water basin, whereby said delivery duct may be charged on a continuous basis.</p> |
