PURPOSE:To obtain the title compound (prenol) useful as a raw material of terpene derivatives, etc., economically, by isomerizing 3-methyl-3-buten-1-ol in the presence of a specific low-cost catalyst. CONSTITUTION:3-methyl-2-buten-1-ol (prenol) is obtained by isomerizing 3-methyl- 3-buten-1-ol using an alkali metal hydroxide or an alkali metal alcoholate, e.g. pottasium hydroxide, as a catalyst. Only isoprene which is easily separable, is obtained as a by-product. |
