The machine for bundling rod material (1) comprises a rotatable head (3) which twists the bundling wire (2) around the rods after these have first been gathered in a trough to form the bundle. The head has a pair of claws (4) which, at one end, are pivoted (5) to the head whilst their other end has a throat-shaped slot (6) which received the wire when the claws are in their spread-apart position. The claws may be spread apart by a spring arranged near the pivots (5). The head may be arranged below the trough and have its axis of rotation (9) in vertical position.
