The capacitor, whose elements are contained in a casing (1), includes a polymeric dielectric material. The inside of the casing is firstly evacuated at ambient temperature by connecting up to a vacuum pump (19). When a pressure measuring instrument (42) indicates that the required vacuum has been obtained, a degassed liquid stored in a reservoir (23) is introduced into the casing. An overpressure can be applied to the liquid by a pump (24) in order to complete the impregnation. The capacitance obtained can be determined periodically with a measuring device (45) and the impregnation terminated when this capacitance has reached a given value. The casing is then hermetically sealed. <IMAGE>
