Cutting appts. for carpet, paper, plastics sheet etc. to any required length or width consists of two arms (2) which are fixed to the edge of a table (4) by screw clamps (5) which also secure a cross-bar (12) with a straight edge (17). A roll of carpet (10) is mounted on a shaft (9) supported by the arms (2) and is fed between the straight edge (17) and the table (4). A knife is used to cut the carpet transversely to the required length. For cutting the carpet to a given width, the knife (28) is mounted on a clamp (26) fixed to the cross-bar (12).
