A machine to break up bulky refuse (domestic articles, trees, pallets, rails and sleepers) consists of two quadrants which form in the position of rest a feed wedge between them. Each has on its periphery segments of alternating radius, carrying lacerating teeth made of tungsten carbide which engage each other. Hydraulic cylinders control their motion either jointly or separately. This machine requires less power than rotary disintegrators and works more economically than power shears. It produces little dust or noise. Two swivelling jaws (1) can be turned around the pivots (4) by hydraulic cylinders. They form a wedge (2) to receive the scrap extended upwards by a shaft (3). The jaws have on their active periphery longer segments (5) carrying lacerating teeth (6) and separated by gaps in which the segments of the other jaw enter. When an obstacle such as a rail cannot be crushed both jaws can be lifted to clear a gap. If a wooden sleeper blocks it one jaw is stopped and the other continues to shred it down with its teeth.
|
