Sealing arrangements for a rotating heat exchanger - ensuring maximum efficiency and minimum leakage with multiple adjusters

Regenerative rotating heat exchanger with a rotor formed of a heat-absorbent material mounted around a central shaft. The rotor is surrounded by a cylindrical body, an annular space being left between the rotor and the body. The body contains, at the opposite ends of the rotor, plates provided with openings to direct a fluid to be heated and a heating fluid across the rotor. The rotor is turned in order that the heat absorbent material may be displaced progressively from the hot to the cold fluid and back again. The cylinder is fitted at each end of the rotor with adjustable sealing devices which give a fine adjustment to allow for optional efficiency in performance. The arrangement allows the relationship of the joints to each other to be maintained permanently in the positions giving maximum leak-tightness. They avoid problems due to the erosion of parts by the particles which may be carried in the gases passing through the exchanger.
