Cooling rolled stock particularly billet and double refined steel. Provides for a shorter cooling time and thus shorter cooling beds, the rolled stock being cooled by air to below 500 degrees C and to approx. 100 degrees C by water. An Edwards-cooling bed is used for transverse conveyance, having feeding and withdrawal axis which constitute part of the swivel bars.
