Separation of oil-water emulsions - using improved coagulating agents injected into mixing stream with compressed air followed by separator

Dissolved, emulsified or suspended materials or an intimate mixt. of such materials in an aq. phase are separated by a process which has novel features both in mixing and in the coagulating agents used. It gives special results in chemical kinetics. The agents used can have a coagulating effect on emulsified or suspended phases or adsorb out genuinely dissolved phases. The reagents are made from an inorganic material of the base exchange ore type combined in various proportions with organic materials. Hydrophobic properties can be developed in some types. The mixing requires high shear, e.g. in a pin mill. Used for sepg. aq. mixts. of various components both dissolved and suspended e.g. cut oil emulsions. Gives improved mixing, low space requirement, energy saving, faster chemical reaction and lower reagent usage, high separation efficiency, and easy handling of the reagents by operators.
