In a control system for a manipulator, control signals are derived by pairs of strain gauges 54, 56; 58, 60 and 62, 64 mounted on surfaces which deflect in response to forces applied manually to a control stick 10 in three mutually perpendicular directions X, Y and Z respectively. The pairs of strain gauges are connected in adjacent arms of respective bridge circuits (66, 68, 70), Fig.2 (not shown). A potentiometer (78) is provided for adjustment of zero position.
