PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of soft spots and hardening strain at the surface hardening treatment, by applying the mixture of glaze and powder of inorganic substance on the surface of carbon steel and by heating and cooling. CONSTITUTION:The surface of carbon steel is coated with the glaze or the mixture of this glaze and inorganic substance such as iron oxide, etc. and is heated and quenched. This coating agent is sticking to the surface during heating but is crushed and falls off simultaneously with the contact to the cooling agent and does not disturb the cooling. Accordingly, the hardening is carried out without generating soft spots and large hardening strain. |
