The filling of containers with beans is to be automated by means of this machine. A device (13) is provided for metering and aligning the beans before the containers (8) are filled with these. This device comprises a coarse-metering channel (15), a fine-metering channel (16), a filling funnel (31) for guiding the aligned beans into the container, and a piston (38), movable in the longitudinal direction of the filling funnel, for stuffing the beans into the containers. The weighing pan (29) of an electronic balance (26) is arranged underneath the outlets of the coarse-metering and fine-metering channels. An outflow funnel (30) opening into the filling funnel is arranged between the weighing pan and the filling funnel. A guide plate (67) for deflecting the beans falling out of the weighing pan into the falling line of the outflow funnel is mounted within the outflow funnel so as to extend obliquely downwards. A pre-metering device (19) of rectangular cross-section is located between the outlets of the said metering channels and the weighing pan. A partition wall for forming a chamber for the coarsely metered beans and a further chamber for the finely metered beans is arranged within the pre-metering device. The two chambers can each be closed by means of a flap. <IMAGE>
