Soft foams based on polyvinyl chloride are manufactured from polyvinyl chloride plastisols including 0.1 to 2.5% by weight, based on polyvinyl chloride, of a monocarboxylic acid of 1 to 6 carbon atoms and containing a blowing agent, with optionally a kicker, by applying the plastisol to a carrier material, pre-gelling at above 100 DEG C and then heating to above 200 DEG C during which heating the material foams and gels. For manufacturing embossed foamed layers the material is printed with an inhibitor ink after pre-gelling. A fabric may be inserted into the pre-gelled material. The invention is used in the manufacture of foam imitation leather and chemically embossed material, e.g., floor and wall coverings. |
