PURPOSE:Enable clear printing to be constantly performed by detecting the thickness of a paper at the time of feeding the paper, discriminating the kind of the paper, and specifying a printing pressure suitable for the paper thickness. CONSTITUTION:At the time of feeding a paper which is constant in thickness, the paper thickness is measured once by a sensor 12. Based on the measured thickness, it is judged whether the paper is a manifold paper or a single-sheet paper. When the paper is judged as a manifold paper, the printing pressure of a printing hammer 4 is adjusted to HIGH, whereas when the paper is a single-sheet paper, the printing pressure is adjusted to LOW, and printing is conducted. Where the thickness of the paper itself varies, the paper thickness is checked by the sensor 12 each time of feeding the paper, and the data obtained is stored. An optimum printing pressure is automatically judged and set according to the variations in paper thickness, taking into account the measured thickness values and a deviation from a printing position. |
