<p>1435768 Supported organometallic polymerization catalysts MONTECATINI EDISON SpA 20 Sept 1973 [26 Sept 1972] 44067/73 Heading C3P A catalyst for the polymerization of alphaolefins comprises a complex of an electrondonor compound (or a Lewis Base) with an aluminium trialkyl, or the addition product of an electron donor compound with an aluminium alkyl compound containing two or more aluminium atoms bound to one another through an oxygen or nitrogen atom, the alumino-alkyl compound combined with the electron donor compound being from 0À01 to 1 mole per mole of the starting alumino alkyl compound, and a halogen containing titanium compound supported by a carrier including an anhydrous magnesium or manganese dihalide and an organic compound or polymer, the carrier and Ti compound together having a surface area larger than 3 m.<SP>2</SP>/g. or an X-ray powder spectrum in which the most intense diffraction lines are broadened, and having a titanium compound content expressed as Ti metal, lower than 0À3 gm. atoms per gm. mol. of the total amount of electron donor compound present in combined form in the catalyst. Suitable organic compounds or polymers are durene, anthracene, hexachlorobenzene, p-dichlorobenzene, acenaphthene, naphthalene, diphenyl, polyethylene, polypropylene, poly(vinyltoluene), polystyrene, polymethylmethacrylate, a polyamide, a polyester, P.V.C., an ester or a diamine. In the examples, the titanium compound is a complex of TiCl 4 and ethyl benzoate. The aluminium complex is a complex of aluminium triethyl and ethyl p-methoxy benzoate. Propene is polymerized.</p> |
