1472232 Grafted hydrocarbon polymers MARUZEN OIL CO Ltd 8 Jan 1975 [11 Jan 1974 (2) 19 Oct 1974] 749/75 Heading C3G A graft polymer comprises a hydrocarbon polymer main chain and a side chain formed from monomers composed mainly of a styrene compound of Formula (I) wherein R is a hydrogen atom or an R<SP>1</SP>CO group, in which R<SP>1</SP> is a hydrocarbon group containing 1 to 20 carbon atoms and n is 1 or 2; and a compound containing at least two polymerizable double bonds grafted to the said main chain. Examples are given in which ionizing radiation is used in the production of graft polymers from a polymer selected from polyethylene, polypropylene or polystyrene in film form, and powdered polypropylene and graft monomers in which the styrene compound is at least one monomer selected from pacetoxystyrene, m- or p-hydroxystyrene, macetoxystyrene and 3,4-diacetoxystyrene, and the compound containing at least two double bonds is divinyl benzene or isoprene. The graft polymers produced are subjected to hydrolysis, chlorosulphonation, sulphonation, acetylation or treatment with dimethylamine and paraformaldehyde followed by methyl bromide. |
