Afterburner has a primary gas-air mixture pipe leading into the afterburning chamber (2) facing, but some distance from, a flow reversing baffle (5) cooled by the secondary air. This air (6) impinges on only a limited area (16) of the baffle. It then flows through holes (8) in the supply pipe along the baffle to an annular gap (13) around its rim. Thence it joins the primary mixture, flowing towards the chamber outlet (3). To improve mixing, the baffle may have perforations.
