A single motor is provided for the drive both of the laundry drum (2) and of the timer, which timer is to be driven continuously in the same direction of rotation, although the drum is rotated alternately in one direction and the other. Provided for this purpose is a driving coupling ring (81) which comes into engagement with a driven coupling member (82) having asymmetric toothing, thus allowing 15 DEG steps for each angular displacement of the coupling ring in one direction or the other. The coupling ring carries a radial projection (67) which is driven in one direction of rotation and the other by the motor, via a reduction gear, when the direction of rotation is reversed.
